What Do You Need in 2011?

With the New Year in place and vacation time winding down, I'm turning my attention back to writing and blogging plans for the year.

For me, 2011 will be a year of revision.  If I can get books one and two of my trilogy 'perfect' (ha ha ha...) I'm aiming to draft book three at NaNoWriMo at the end of the year.  To that end, I'm studying revision and writing techniques and planning lots of blogposts on how to write effectively.

But I also want to hit hot topices for my writing friends.  So tell me, what are your writing goals this year?  What topics on Seeking the Write Life would help you achieve your goals?

I'm all ears!

  1. I love how you've planned your year out! Haha. I thought I was the only aspiring author who did that. Nice to be able to relate!

For me, this year is a mixture of revision and first drafting. Because of the way my writing process works, if I plan to sell anything this year (my ultimate goal) and keep my sanity, I need to have a first draft of something going. So, tomorrow I start my YA paranormal, Jan 10 I begin revisions on a YA fantasy, and some time after completing the YA paranormal, a sequel to the YA fantasy needs to be penned. All this must get done before mid-June 2011, b/c I plan to start the sequel to PHASE, my YA paranormal from Summer 2010. If I'm not wrapped up in too many revisions during NaNoWriMo, I plan to write my first ever YA dystopian.

So yes, like you, I've got a busy year ahead of me. ANYTHING on revision--including but not limited to editing, rewriting, expanding a novel, etc--would be wonderful!

Thanks for your awesome site and its many uses! Have an awesome writing year! :D

  2. I also am buckling down this year and taking writing seriously and want my first story out this spring. I'm currently working on the second draft of my horror/suspense book and I'm starting to think of my cover and about editing.

I keep reading in so many places that both are crucial next to the actual story so I would like to hear about people who offer those services at an affordable price.

    Thanks for asking!

  3. I'm looking forward to reading your posts this year!

My resolution is to finish a novel, but I'm also hoping to learn how to write efficiently -- and how to revise, if I do get to that stage. :)
