Slaying the Mythical Beast

Do you have an agent or a book contract?

Would you be willing to share your 'winning' query letter?  Or your 'How My Ninja Submission Skills Nabbed Me an Agent / Publisher' story? (Names & details redacted, of course).

I want to make a collection for those of us still on the journey to read, study and covet.

Can you help?  Comment here or tweet me.

  1. This is a great idea! I just sent my first 5 queries, so I can't help, but I'll spread the word for you.

I can't wait to see what you gather.

  2. What a fabulous idea. Like Charity, I'm in the process of waiting for responses from agents, so I am unable to help you.
I can't wait to read your article - hope you get some great responses that will assist the unagented folk such as me.

  3. In this series, "Query Week," you can see two "winning" queries as well as comments on them both from the writers themselves and an agent :) There's also just a bunch of querying-related information. Hope you find it helpful!

  4. Hi Aimee,

I still have my letter that won my agent over. I probably did everything wrong but you can look to see if you wanta use it. I sort of threw everything out the window and did my best to sell the manuscript.

  5. Nancy - that would be great. Every kind of example is great. My email is on the top right of this site, or you can tweet me and I'll send it to you.

  6. Excellent idea.

I will spread the word also.

  7. If I showed you my query letter that got me my publishing contract with Bellebooks, you'd probably say "THAT worked? THAT caught their attention?" *laughing*

  8. Ha! Hey, you must have done something right!

  9. If you want to see the absolute beginning of a writer getting offers for a winning query and signing a contract, go to

Mr. Winchell started his journey, hit all the speed bumps and orange cones, now is on the freeway, barrelling down the road doing eighty.
