Personally, I think the important thing isn't the approach, but whether what you've written evolves organically, is believable and anyone could read the scene and not need to have the reasoning explained to them.

No one knows your book better than you. if you're not sure, let another writer critique it that you can trust to give you honest feedback.

Good luck!Aimee L. I think the proper term is
"Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?"

While I hit the major points here, during the climax of my WIP, the antagonist explains his motive to the protagonist in an attempt to sway him over to his side, since the protagonist has potential and shows darkening shades of gray. Also, the protagonist's allies are approaching and the antagonist needs help to turn them against each other with his power.

What are your thoughts on this?Chihuahua0http://youngaspiringwriter.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2622477097361465.post-6673717913595120832011-10-17T14:15:37.679-07:002011-10-17T14:15:37.679-07:00Ha! I've read and loved Dwight V Swain's book (I think you recommended it a while back and I went out and bought it and it CHANGED the way I wrote), and right now, I'm going through the entire series of posts you have to make notes for myself regarding my current WIP. Very helpful! You've given me a lot to think about!

Doesn't mean you still get to steal my Sunday Cadbury. I've noticed a watered down version of it gets used in a lot of cop shows on tv and i think some novelists ape that without realizing it.

Cally - Yes indeed. In fact, I'd say it's a method largely parodied these days, and for good reason. Really, really not a good idea to use this. Sometimes it's obvious you're doing it (the Batman example), but sometimes it's less obvious. But definitely something to watch for!Susan Kaye Quinnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07348197999397141067noreply@blogger.com
